Huntsville, AL - On one of our recent barbecue Road Trips, my buddy Jim and I ventured over to Jordan Lane in Huntsville, AL to visit a locally owned BBQ joint that I had read great reviews on.
PB's is a small building located in the parking lot of a night club and is well marked with their signage and menus. In addition, they have their catering truck parked out close the roadway so you can't miss the location.
They utilize the walk up window service and seating is on a small deck on the front and side. They do have a larger covered pavilion around to the side where we chose to eat. Jim ordered a BBQ Plate ($8.49) with vinegar coleslaw and mac-n-cheese, I opted for the combination plate with brisket and ribs ($12.99) with vinegar slaw and bbq beans. Both plates were served with a couple of slices of loaf bread.
Jim thought the pork bbq was very good as it had a good smoky taste, was moist and tender. You could tell it was cooked over real wood and none of the artificial hickory liquid smoke had been added. The smoked mac-n-cheese and the vinegar slaw were about average on taste. He felt that the barbecue sauce itself was just average, nothing to write home about.
My combination plate when I opened it has a most delicious smell to it. Again, the wood smoked meat was very evident in the great fragrance that emanated out of the styrofoam plate when I opened it. The brisket was very tender and moist and had the great taste you would expect from a Texas-style brisket cooked low and slow. The smoked ribs were cooked to the perfect doneness with none of the fast food chain "fall off the bone" crap. These ribs held the meat to the bone until you bit into it and then it pulled cleanly away from the bone like good ribs should do. The ribs were juicy, tender and delectable, I could have eaten a whole rack of them by myself, and, maybe next time I'll do just that.
