Florence, AL – Back a couple of months ago a friend of mine gave me several Hardee’s/Carl Jr. coupons for a free 1/3 pounder original Thickburger. In the past, I’ve not been a big fan of Hardee’s burgers even though for years Hardee’s was my “Go-To” choice for breakfast. That was until I discovered Jack’s (it’s an Alabama chain) breakfast offerings, and then I just sort of migrated away from Hardee’s.
So, when I got the free coupons I thought “What the heck,” I can do a free burger from about anywhere. When I arrived at Hardee’s, I decided to dine in so as to get the full Hardee’s experience and if they got my burger wrong I could get it corrected. Let’s just say from past experience with Hardee’s their service and order fulfillment has been questionable.
It was about 12:30 pm when I went in and it was like a ghost town inside, not another customer in the building. My thought right off the bat was, “this don’t look good at all.” But, it’s a free burger so what’s the worst could happen, I could always toss it. During the time I was waiting they had one other customer to come in and it was a to go order.
I ordered the Original Thickburger meal which included fries and a drink, and I requested no mayo or ketchup on the burger. I handed the young lady on the register my free coupon and it took her by surprise because it was a corporate free coupon and she didn’t know how to handle it. She summoned the manager who looked at it and inquired where I got it. I told her a friend of mine’s son-in-law was a franchise owner and he had given them to me. She finally rung the coupon up (worth $4.79) and I forked over the $3.67 to pay for the rest of the order.
After having read a few other reviews on Hardee’s service I decided to time my order from the time it was paid until the time it came out. It took a shade under nine (9) minutes for them to prepare and serve the order. During that period they did have a couple of drive through’s as well as the walk-in order, so they did have other orders. I inquired why it took so long when I got my order and the answer was as expected, they cook the thick burger patties to order so as not to dry them out.
I cut the burger in half just to be able to see a cross section of the meat, it was cooked to about a medium to medium well and did not have any undercooked areas. The meat was juicy and tender and have a grilled taste to it. The lettuce was crisp and the tomato was above average for a fast food restaurant. The slice of cheese covered the hamburger patty and was all gooie and actual tasted like cheese.
The fries were above average for fast food fries and were actual made from skin on potatoes. They were thick-cut and actually had a real potato taste to them unlike the cardboard fries from the clown farm and some other burger joints.
Needless to say, my overall experience was above my expectations and I’ve got a few more of the free coupons that don’t have an expiration date that I’ll be using.
